You only need a small activity or fun prop to add nostalgia and joy to your family photo session. I’ve put together a list of activities I have done with families. And a few that I’m dying to do, like flying a kite. I add these activities to a session as a way to break the ice and bring out joy and laughter. Plus these activities and locations are beautiful to photograph as well.

The Creekside is so fun for kids of all ages.
Downtown parking garages have rooftop locations that provide so much pretty sunset light and architectural interest.

Sink baths with your newborn, baby, or young toddler. I would add this activity to a family session in your home or backyard.

Going for an urban walk and ending your session at a cute ice cream shop. Urban locations such as German Village or many of the quaint towns and main streets in the suburbs in Central Ohio, provide old world architectural details that look great in photos. Plus the activity of exploring the streets and shops gives us a family bonding activity to enjoy during the photo session.
I love incorporating your ideas as well, especially when it’s an activity that is loved by your family.
